Dark History, Documented is the history side of Macabre Chronicle: what really happened, with the sources to show it. No curses, no hauntings, no gore. Just the record, read carefully, and the people in it treated as people.
It runs in five series. Each episode is a Short of about a minute on our YouTube channel @MacabreChronicle, and each Short has a companion article here with the sources, a timeline and a “Documented / Disputed” box.
The five series
Dark Medicine
Medical history’s wrong turns: treatments that harmed, poisons sold as cures, and experiments that should never have happened. What doctors believed, what they did, and what the records show.
Death Customs
How people have cared for, mourned and remembered their dead: ossuaries and catacombs, mourning dress and jewellery, wakes, burial rites and the fears that came with them.
Disaster Minute
Historic disasters in about a minute: what happened, why it happened, and what changed afterwards. Floods, explosions, fires and collapses, told from the record and with respect for the people who died.
Desperate Measures
Survival at the edge: shipwreck, famine and siege, and the choices people made when nothing else was left. Told from survivors’ accounts, court records and archaeology, without sensationalism.
Strange Justice
Historic courts, punishments and institutions that seem strange today, told from the records: what the law said, who it was used against, and why it changed.
Case pages
A case page gathers everything we have on one event or person: key facts, the related episodes and articles, and further reading. Browse all case pages.
